International History
Alpha Delta Pi holds the distinction of being the first secret society in the world for college women and is regarded as the "First and Finest."
We were founded on May 15, 1851, at Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia. The original name of the sorority was the "Adelphean Society." The word "Adelphean" is derived from the Greek word meaning sister.
The six original founders of the Adelphean Society were Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald, Ella Pierce Turner, Octavia Andrew Rush, Mary Evans Glass, Elizabeth Williams Mitchell, and Sophronia Woodruff Dews.
The Adelphean Society flourished through the years and in 1904 the members voted to become national. In 1905 the name was changed to Alpha Delta Phi, but because of continued confusion with a mens' fraternity of the same name, the name was changed once again to Alpha Delta Pi in 1913.
The qualifications for membership have remained unchanged through the years – scholarship, high principles of behavior, and true friendship. Today, there are over 170,000 initiated members of Alpha Delta Pi worldwide and more than 155 collegiate chapters throughout the United States and Canada.

Epsilon Chi History
Epsilon Chi has a strong sisterhood and history of excellence. Founded on Longwood's campus on May 10, 1969, we are a group of women who make a difference in each other's lives, in the community, and on campus. In the Spring of 2009 we celebrated our 40th anniversary of being apart of the Longwood University greek life where over 200 sisters came together to celebrate our achievements and to reunite past sisters. During that weekend we also put on our 4th Annual Miles for Smiles 5k Run/Walk that takes place on campus. All donations helped to benefit the Ronald McDonald Houses across Virginia.
You will find ADPi sisters in a variety of different organizations ranging from Peer Mentors, SGA members, honor societies, Ambassadors, and many more. Although we can be found all over campus, we all share one place we can call our home away from home, 4th floor of Stubbs.
